Following the unprecedented rains in Chennai and the resultant floods, we had reported earlier that the U.S. Consulate in Chennai was forced to close from December 3, 2015. The U.S. Consulate in Chennai resumed operations on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. The Visa Application Center (VAC) also remained closed until Sunday, December 6, 2015. The VAC resumed operations on Monday, December 7, 2015.  Only applicants who have successfully completed their biometric appointment can appear for the visa interview on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. Applicants who were originally scheduled to attend a visa interview at U.S. Consulate in Chennai between December 3 and 7, will have to login to their profile on www.ustraveldocs.com/in and reschedule an appointment for a future date.

We expect longer wait times for visa interview at the U.S. Consulate in Chennai following this unexpected closure. We urge non-immigrant U.S. visa applicants, planning to apply from Chennai to apply early.
