Our regular readers are aware that all Blanket L visa have been adjudicated only at the U.S. Consulate, Chennai since December 1, 2011. We intend to clarify that blanket L visa applicants must pay fees associated with petition at the cashier window on the date of visa interview. This is in addition to the consular visa fee which must be paid through existing electronic fee or by cash at Axis or Citi bank.

Pursuant to L-1 Visa Reform Act of 2004, the petitioner must pay the Fraud Prevention and Detection Fee of $500. Also, petitioner(s) with more than 50 employees in the United States, with more than 50 percent of those employees in H-1B or L status, must also pay the Pub. L. 114-113 Fee (Biometric Entry-Exit Fee) of $4,500. The fees of $500 and $4,500 are applicable only for primary L visa applicants, and not for the dependent L-2 visa applicants (spouse and children below the age of 21).

Generally, the consulate accepts these fees through a Demand Draft, however the following payment options are exclusively available for Blanket L visa applicants:

1. Demand Draft (In favor of “American Consulate General” payable at Chennai)
2. Credit Card (Master or Visa)
3. Indian Rupees or Dollar currencies

It should be noted that debit card and personal checks are not accepted.

We will continue to bring updates to the fee payment options for blanket L visa applicants.
