The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently announced closure of all international operations (IO) division offices by the end of 2019. Closure of USCIS International Field offices would affect some very useful services available for eligible U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, certain non-immigrants, asylees and refugees residing in India. Detailed list of activities performed by the USCIS Field Office, New Delhi is available here.
We trust that some of these activities will be assigned to the consular posts in India. At the time of this writing, there is no information available on the procedures or the resources allocated to the consulate to handle this additional workload. A detailed write up on closure of USCIS International Field Office is available on the website of the Murthy Law Firm, USA. This article can be found here. We will continue to bring updates on this topic.
