We had earlier reported that the U.S. Consulate, Chennai announced that they will resume visa processing following Cyclone Michaung from Monday, December 11, 2023. In the earlier announcement, it was noted that applicants for whom the appointments were cancelled (between December 4 to December 8) will be contacted directly with information on the rescheduling.
A news update on the U.S. Embassy’s website announces that the appointments will be rescheduled in the following manner:
- If appointment was cancelled on account of Cyclone Michaung, the applicant will receive an email with new appointment date. If the applicant has not already received the email, they should check the spam folder.
- Appointments are rescheduled in the following priority:
- Student Visa Appointments: Will be rescheduled to the week of December 11-15, 2023.
- Petition Based Visa Appointments: Will be rescheduled to the week of December 18-22, 2023.
- B1/B2 Appointments: Will be rescheduled to January 2024.
- This news update further indicates that applicants whose visa application center (VAC) interview wavier appointments were cancelled will receive a rescheduled appointment. There is no timeline provided for this.
Except for B1/B2 visa applications, all dropbox (interview wavier appointments) were recently moved to the U.S. Consulate in Chennai for centralized processing. Owing to these cancellations, the U.S. Consulate, Chennai has indicated that one should expect delay in processing of these applications. The above news update can be found here.
