Indian nationals living abroad who have not been able to register the
birth under the “Birth, Deaths and Marriage Registration Act, 1886” can
now apply for a birth certificate based on the passport.
One must submit the duly completed form for “Birth Certificate as per
Passport”. Applicants must also include a passport size photograph of the
applicant for whom the birth certificate is requested along with the
applicant’s valid passport in original and photocopy of biographic pages, copy
of documents to evidence legal status of the applicant and proof of address.
The application fee is US$25 and $2 towards the Indian Community Welfare Fund
(ICWF). Both should be made by separate cashier’s cheques. For applications
that are sent through the mail, an additional amount of US$20 should be paid by
cashier’s cheque towards mailing charges. This information can be found here.
