In light of the increased demand for nonimmigrant visa appointments in India, U.S. nonimmigrant visa applicants are permitted to reschedule their visa interview only twice after scheduling an appointment. After the second reschedule, the system will not permit any further changes to the appointment. If the applicant needs to further reschedule an appointment, s/he must cancel the existing appointment and forfeit the visa application fee. S/he can then resubmit the visa application fee and attempt to secure an earlier date. Previously, nonimmigrant visa applicants in India were permitted to reschedule an appointment up to five times. There is no official update on this change; however, we have confirmed it with the U.S. visa application support desk.
With current wait times in India exceeding several weeks for most categories of nonimmigrant U.S. visas, this change in the appointment system is of significance. We urge U.S. nonimmigrant visa applicants to plan ahead and apply early. H and L workers who are not eligible for the drop box system should plan their trip in accordance to the current wait times.
