An update on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection site indicates that effective November 2016, Chinese nationals holding a 10 year B-1/B-2, B-1, or B-2 visa on their “Peoples Republic of China” passport will have to update their biographic information once in every two years using the Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS). Travelers using other travel documents, including Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan passports will not be affected by this new requirement.
EVUS system is not in place yet. This is expected to be up and running by November 2016. More information on this system will be made available by the U.S. Government. At the time of this writing, EVUS is applicable only for Chinese nationals with B visas as indicated above. This requirement will be applicable for both existing B visa holders and travelers who are issued a B visa after November 2016. EVUS needs to be updated if the Chinese national plans to visit the United States and two years has expired since his/her prior registration, or if the traveler has renewed his/her passport since the prior U.S. visit.
It is important to note that no action is needed until the EVUS goes online in November 2016. This requirement may be extended to nationals of other countries at a future date. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will keep visa holders informed of any new and additional requirements. More information on EVUS can be found here.
