Subscribers to our bulletin and regular visitors to www.murthyindia.com are aware that all non-immigrant U.S. visa applicants need to complete form DS160 as part of applying for a U.S. visa. While completing the form DS160, applicant(s) need to provide their email ID. This email ID is generally used by the Department of State to communicate with the applicant even at a future date.
For example, if there is an INA 221(g) request, the consulate may take several months to process the same. During this time, the consulate may reach the applicant, seeking additional information. Another example could be that of a prudential revocation of visa, the intimation is sent to the email ID listed on the form DS160. If the applicant was issued a visa and the applicant had included his/her official email ID on the form DS160 and later moves to a new organization, then any critical communication from the Department of State may not reach the applicant. So, it is important to list an email ID which the applicant will have access to in the long term, ensuring any future communication from the Department of State is not lost.
