Any beneficiary of a family- (I-130) or employment- (I-140) based immigrant application will have to visit the consulate for a personal interview if s/he has opted for consular process. Apart from this, certain U.S. citizens temporarily domiciled in India may be eligible to file I-130 at the USCIS field office in New Delhi for parents/spouse /child(ren). Similarly, eligible U.S. lawful permanent residents may qualify as “returning-resident” (SB1). These beneficiaries will have to visit the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi or the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai for a personal interview.
We have noticed an increase in the wait time for such immigrant visa interviews. The wait time varies from 4 to 12 weeks. We at Murthy Immigration Services urge qualifying immigrant visa applicants to keep in mind this increased wait time while planning their travel to the United States. We will continue to bring any significant changes on this subject. 6
