Indian Visa Update: Visa-On-Arrival to be expanded for Nationals of 180 Countries

A news article on a National News Channel earlier in 2014 reported that the Ministry of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning, Government of India would extend tourist Visa-on-Arrival to Nationals of 180 countries from October 2014. This facility will not available to Nationals of the following eight countries – Pakistan, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Somalia.

The visa on arrival will be granted for a stay of upto 30 days from date of arrival in India. Foreign travelers eligible under this program would need to apply through a designated website along with the required fees. They would be granted an electronic version of the visa within three days of the application. At the time of this writing, information on the website and applicable fee are awaited. The Visa-on-arrival can also be availed in all 26 major airports in India including Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

Presently, the visa-on-arrival is available to nationals of Japan, Finland, Singapore, Indonesia, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar. The countries for which visa on arrival facility would be extended include the US, the UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Poland, Norway and Ireland.
