We had earlier reported that the consular exchange rate was increased from ₹68 to one US$ to ₹70 to one US$, with effect from Thursday, February 18, 2016. The consular exchange rate has been rolled back to ₹68 to one US$ with effect from March 22, 2016.
This revision in exchange rate will affect the Indian rupee equivalent for all application fees paid on or after March 22, 2016. The revision will affect all nonimmigrant and immigrant visa applications, and American Citizenship services. Effectively, the new non-immigrant visa application fee is ₹10,880 (equivalent to US$160 for non-petition-based visa categories) and ₹12,920 (equivalent to US$190 for petition-based visa categories). Applicants who paid their fees prior to March 22, 2016 can use the respective AXIS / Citibank / NEFT confirmation within one year from the date of payment of the visa application fees.
