For all U.S. immigrant visa applicants who have opted for consular processing, after the petition is approved, the file is transferred to the NVC. The NVC will contact the petitioner / beneficiary when the case is ready for processing. Following this, the petitioner / beneficiary will have to choose an agent, remit the applicable fee, submit the visa application form, collect financial and all supporting documents and send it to the NVC. Upon receipt of all required documentation and information, the NVC will process the case further and the applicant will have to appear for the personal interview at respective U.S. embassy or consulate.

In this process, when the case moves to the NVC, depending on the type of interview letter and the U.S. embassy or consulate the beneficiary will be interviewed in, there are three modes of submitting the supporting documents to the NVC.

  1. Upload the documents online using Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC). For such cases, the beneficiary will receive a letter indicating “You May Begin Online Processing”.  The following documents need to be submitted.
    1. Copy of financial forms and evidence,
    2. Copy of supporting civil documents, and
    3. Copy of translations.
  2. For NVC case numbers beginning with “AKD…; AMM….; BGH….; DMS….; and GZO….” The beneficiary will have to email PDF version of the supporting documents to NVCelectronic@state.gov. The case number should be typed on the subject of the email. Applicants can attach multiple PDF files in support of one case number, however, the size of each file should not exceed 5MB. Similarly, if there is more than one case number, then a separate email needs to be sent for each case number. The following documents need to be submitted as PDF files.
    1. Copy of financial forms and evidence,
    2. Copy of supporting civil documents, and
    3. Copy of translations.
  3. If the interview letter does not indicate “You May Begin Online Processing” and the case numbers do not begin with “AKD…; AMM….; BGH….; DMS….; and GZO….”, then the applicant needs to mail the following to NVC.
    1. Document Cover Sheet included along with the NVC Welcome Letter. If the document cover sheet was not included in the package from NVC, then s/he may download the same from CEAC website by providing the case number and invoice number,
    2. Clear copy of financial forms and supporting documents,
    3. Clear copy of civil documents, and
    4. Clear copy of any required translations.

Applicant(s) SHOULD NOT mail any originals – the original needs to be carried for the visa interview. The documents have to be shipped in one package to the following address (if there is more than one case number, then one should use a separate envelop for each case number): National Visa Center

Attn: DR
31 Rochester Ave. Suite 100
Portsmouth, NH  03801-2914

It is important for the immigrant visa applicant to have an active email ID registered with the NVC. This email ID can be that of the petitioner, beneficiary or the attorney or agent. If an email ID was not provided earlier, then one may do so by calling 1-603-334-0700. While calling, the following information is required to validate the caller.

  • Petitioner’s full name,
  • Beneficiary’s full name, and
  • Beneficiary’s date of birth.

Moving the document submission process online could reduce processing time substantially. It is important that clear and legible copies are provided to the NVC to facilitate faster processing.
