In December 2014, we had written about the importance of the form DS160. In this article, we had also discussed about the importance of choosing the right consulate prior to submission of the form DS160. In line with this, recently, the consulates in India have indicated that they are unable to process an application for non-immigrant visa, if the applicant has chosen a consulate other than the one s/he is being interviewed. This is on account of a technical issue that prevents the post from accessing information if the post on DS160 is incorrect. Effectively, the applicant has to complete a new visa application form DS160 with correct consular post and bring back the new confirmation sheet within a specified time frame. If s/he is unable to make it on the same day, within the specified time, s/he has to schedule a new appointment. To avoid delay and confusion, it is important that the “Location” on the DS160 matches the consular post the applicant will be interviewed. This notification can also be found here.

We urge U.S. non-immigrant visa applicants worldwide to take special care and attention to select the correct consular post prior to submission of the visa application form DS160.
