A recent notification on the U.S. Consulate’s official website indicates that the visa section and the library will remain closed on Friday September 21, 2012 as well. This update can be found here.

With this, the visa section has remained closed the whole of this week. Further, it is unclear if the consulate will function next week (Week starting September 24-28). Nonimmigrant visa applicants with interview this week have been notified by eMail of the cancellation, and some of them have already been scheduled later part of next. If applicants have an urgent need to travel, they could either contact the consulate by email on chennaiexp@state.gov and request for an early appointment (or) they may choose to apply at one of the other U.S. Consulate(s) or U.S. Embassy in India.
